2013 CENTRAL CANADA CUP – TOURNAMENT RULES

*****************************************************

  1. SCHEDULE AND FORMAT

The six (6) teams will play a round robin – 5 games per team.  The 1st place team will play the 2nd place team in the Final.

  1. GAME FORMAT

The length of all games (round-robin and Final) will be two (2) twenty minute periods.  The pre-game warm-up will be ten (10) minutes and the intermissions will be twelve (12) minutes.

During the first period, teams will defend the net OPPOSITE their bench.  During the second period, teams will defend the net AT THE SAME END as their bench.

For round-robin games, ties will be decided in a three (3) player shootout where the home team shall decide whether it will shoot first or second.  Penalized players are NOT ELIGIBLE to participate in the shootout.  If the teams are still tied after the first shootout, there will be a second shootout in ''sudden-death'' format.

All players, except penalized players,  will participate in the order determined by the coach but no player may take a second shot until all players have taken their first shot.

If the Final is tied after regulation time, there will be a five (5) minute sudden-victory overtime period with ''4 vs. 4''.  The teams shall NOT change ends for the overtime period.  If the teams are still tied after the overtime period, there will be a shootout in the same fashion as the round-robin games.

  1. STANDINGS AND POINTS SYSTEM

        3 points – regulation win.

        2 points  - shootout win.

        1 point  - shootout loss.

If two (2) teams are tied in the standings, the team who won the game involving those two teams will earn the higher position in the standings.

Ties between three (3) or more teams will be broken as follows :

  1. The best record in games involving the tied teams.
  2. The best goal differential (goals for – goals against) in games

          involving the tied teams only.

  1. The best percentage as follows :

(Goals for) / (Goals for – Goals against)

in games involving the tied teams only.

  1. TIME-OUTS

As per Hockey Canada art.10.17, each team will be permitted one thirty-second time-out during the course of regulation playing time or over-time.
